Nintendo Says Switch Successor Can Be Described As “Next Model”
Several hours ago, Nintendo officially confirmed that the successor to the Nintendo Switch is on the way, with more information to be shared sometime this fiscal year.
Speaking to investors, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa reportedly said that “next model” is an appropriate way to describe this successor. This is interpreted to mean that the successor will likely not be a radical departure from the original Switch, unlike past generational shifts.
Furukawa told investors today that "Switch next model" is the appropriate way to describe Switch's successor.
It isn't going to be a radical departure. Not surprising based on everything we've heard.

Indeed, this description is echoed in the Japanese wording of the original announcement. As many have pointed out, it uses the term “Switchの後継機種” to describe the Switch’s “successor system”, which is similar to how the Wii U was described as the Wii’s successor (Wiiの後継機).

→「全く新たなコンセプトのゲーム機」今回

Of course, numerous rumors about the successor system have already painted a picture of it being a larger more powerful iteration of the Switch. We will be sure to report back with more details once the official reveal arrives.
