Nintendo Says They Are Not Planning To Announce A New Switch Model Anytime Soon
Despite there being numerous rumors about an upcoming “Pro” model for the Switch, there has yet to be an official announcement that such a product is in the works at Nintendo.
During Nintendo the Q&A session for Nintendo’s latest financials report, the company apparently addressed a question about the possibility of a “new model” of Switch being released in 2021. As shared by Bloomberg tech reporter Takashi Mochizuki, Nintendo stated that they were “not planning to make any announcement anytime soon” since they were about to release the Mario and Monster Hunter Rise edition Switch variants in the coming months.
Q: new model this year?
A: not planning to make an annoucement anytime soon as we have Mario ver in Feb, MH ver in Mar.Hint: Nintendo chief last year said not planning to release new model in 2020. Today's was just "not anytime soon." So, that means…?https://t.co/MQkwskXYrn

Many have interpreted this comment to mean that Nintendo does not want to announce a new Switch model at this time, “Pro” or otherwise, so as not to eat into the sales of the special edition Switches they are releasing in the coming months. That said, the change in wording from “not in 2020” to “not anytime soon” does raise a few eyebrows, and has some people speculating that Nintendo is indeed planning to announce a Switch Pro after the special editions have had their time to shine.
Ultimately however, these comments do not provide quite enough solid evidence to confirm the existence of a “Switch Pro” one way or another. We will be sure to report back with more details as they come.
