Nintendo Shutting Down “Wide Care” Switch Repair Subscription Service In Japan
Last July, Nintendo announced a Switch repair subscription service called “Wide Care” in Japan, which would allow subscribers to send their Switch for repairs up to six times at no extra cost.
Unfortunately, Nintendo Japan has decided to pull the plug on this service, and has announced that it will be shutting down the service on August 31st 2023. Ahead of this shutdown date, current subscribers will not be able to make any further changes to their plans after July 14th 2023, and will no longer be able to renew them after the end date.
This news comes as a bit of a surprise, given that the service was active for barely a year before Nintendo decided to shut it down. At the time of this writing, no official reason for the closure has been given, but the simplest explanation would be that the service simply did not live up to the company’s expectations.
