Nintendo Switch 2 And Switch Physical Games Could Become More Expensive Due To US Tariffs

Heads up for collectors of physical games living in the United States – your Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch physical games could become more expensive from August 1, 2025.

In early July 2025, US president Donald Trump announced that the US will levy a 25% tariff on all products manufactured in Japan from August. Given that Nintendo has been manufacturing Game Cards and Game-Key Cards for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, as well as cartridges for all their platforms since the Famicom era, in Japan, this will increase the cost of importing physical games to the US by 25%.

Since 25% isn’t a small number, it is possible that publishers, including Nintendo themselves, will pass on the tariffs they pay for importing Game Cards and Game-Key Cards to consumers in the form of price increases. Nintendo has set a precedent for passing on the cost of tariffs of Nintendo Switch 2 accessories and amiibo to consumers after universal tariffs were levied in April 2025, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens next.

At the time of writing, all Japanese products imported in the US have a 10% tariff, and prior to April 2025, they did not have any tariffs, with the exception of a few products that had industry-specific tariffs.
