Nintendo Switch 2 Cannot Run At 4K And 120 FPS At The Same Time
Information from the Nintendo Switch 2’s specification sheets has confirmed a key detail about the system’s performance when it comes to resolution and frame rate.
According to the specifications sheet, while the Switch 2 is able to display games at 4K resolution in TV mode, it can only do so at a maximum of 60 FPS (frames per second).
What that means is the system will not be able to run games at 120 FPS unless the game is displayed at a lower resolution, such as 1440p or 1080p.
In Handheld mode, images are displayed at 1080p, so games that can run at 120 FPS will be able to do so in Handheld mode.
Certain games, such as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, will offer two modes that prioritize either graphics (4K, 60 FPS) or frame rate (1440p, 120 FPS). Not all games will have the ability to do this, as it is up to the developer of the game to offer the option to choose.
