The Pokemon Company has announced that it is cancelling the majority of special in-person events for Pokemon Center stores in Japan.

The news was shared via the official Pokémon Center Staff Voice portal, confirming that all typical special events such as meet and greets, TCG classrooms, and more have been cancelled for the month of April 2026. The only exceptions to this are domestic City League TCG Tournaments and the Preliminary Tournament for the Pokémon GO Japan Championships 2026.

While the announcement only cites “unforeseen circumstances” as the reason for the cancellation, it is likely that it is a safety precaution following the horrific stabbing that occurred at Pokemon Center Mega Tokyo, which resulted in the death of an employee as well as the attacker. Pokemon Center Mega Tokyo closed its doors following the incident, and it is unknown when it will reopen.
