Professional Translator Confirms Pokemon Sword And Shield Models Are Built From Scratch
Earlier this month, several members of the Pokemon community translated a Famitsu interview with Pokemon Sword and Shield director Shigeru Ohmori.
Trouble came when conflicting translations on what Ohmori had said about how the Pokemon models were made in Pokemon Sword and Shield were circulated on the Internet, with some claiming that some models were brought over from the 3DS games.
To clear up the confusion, Reddit user Sliated paid USD50 to human translation service Gengo to find out what Ohmori had really said in the interview. The service confirmed Ohmori told Famitsu that the Pokemon models were built from scratch for Sword and Shield.
This is what the translator said:
“The exact words Ohmori used are “モデルを最初から作り直す,” which explicitly means completely making them again from the ground up.”
The proofreader also confirmed what the translator said:
“There is no mistake in saying that the models were built from scratch.”
Despite the confirmation, some still believe Ohmori was lying as Game Freak had previously said a few years ago that all Pokemon models since Pokemon X and Y are future proofed for future games.
