Random: Here’s A Closer Look At The Cancelled “Kid Kirby” Game Project For The SNES
Following the reveal of more footage from the cancelled Kirby Gamecube game, another one of the pink puff’s scrapped endeavors has been brought back into the internet spotlight.
The game in question is Kid Kirby, a proposed spin-off for the series starring a younger version of the titular character. As documented by the aptly named @KidKirbyArchive, the game was worked on by DMA Design, the company that would eventually become Rockstar North. It was planned to be used with the SNES mouse peripheral, with gameplay involving flicking Kid Kirby across the screen. However, due to sluggish development and the poor sales of the SNES mouse, the game was ultimately cancelled before release.
[THREAD] Hello, and welcome to the Kid Kirby Archive Twitter account! This short-lived SNES entry in the Kirby series has received very little attention over the years – we'll be working hard to find all that we can about it! What do we know about it so far? Well… pic.twitter.com/7bgpfcgekP

Due to the slow pace of development and presumably also influenced by the poor sales of the SNES Mouse, Nintendo halted production on the title. The first public reveal of Kid Kirby prior to its cancellation was in an issue of a Mexican Club Nintendo magazine. (year 4, issue 7) pic.twitter.com/4im9xPUzYL

That said, thanks to the hard work of the KidKirbyArchive as well as Ex-DMA Design dev Steve Hammond, we now have a treasure trove of interesting trivia about the game and its development. This includes renders of characters like “Prince Dedede”, sketches of Kirby using “kidspeak” consisting of fruit and vegetables, as well as a document detailing the proposed story for the game.
Next, a render of King Dedede, previously seen in much lower quality on a 1995 internal brochure. According to Steve, he was named Prince Dedede in Kid Kirby, not quite a king just yet. This is also the only known render to have been created by Nintendo of America. pic.twitter.com/PGbtwA7PBn

Pages 4-7 of the manual. Page 7 includes some cheeky 90s satire in the newspaper clipping, and notably page 4 has a never-before-seen logo! We also get a glimpse of Kirby's Kidspeak in action. pic.twitter.com/9uGnr5XE0J

This is not just a step forward for the preservation of this project – this is a massive *leap* forward! This would not be possible without the cooperation of @snap2grid, who generously provided whatever material he could find. Check out his website at https://t.co/gslfKWrEfv!
