Rumor: Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Planned To Feature Pokemon, Dragon Ball, And More

Some interesting behind the scenes details have surfaced about Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

This tidbit comes via Lee Cocker, who was the Producer of the crossover title. According to Cocker, the game was planned to feature many more crossovers aside from just Mario and Sonic. He claims that there were “lots of deals” that couldn’t be agreed upon.

When prompted by a fan, Cocker revealed a list of series that were discussed, which includes obvious picks like Pokemon and Zelda. However, it then expands beyond Nintendo to include Street Fighter, Mega Man, and most surprisingly, Dragon Ball.

  • Pokemon
  • Street Fighter
  • Mega Man
  • Dragon Ball
  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Legend of Zelda
  • some Sony and Microsoft properties/characters

It is likely that the deals fell through due to the how complicated licensing all the different characters would have been, a feat that has previously only been achieved once with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with much difficulty.
