Rumor: Nikkei Report Claims Development Of New Nintendo Console Is “Progressing Well”
Following Nintendo’s latest financial results briefing, Japanese publication Nikkei has shared some reports regarding the long rumored successor to the Nintendo Switch.
Firstly, in an article about the financial results briefing published by Nikkei Asia, a source “close to Nintendo” reportedly claimed that development of this rumored Switch successor was “progressing well”, but that the new console would not be launched before Spring 2024 at earliest.
Development seems to be progressing well, but a product launch won’t happen before next spring at the earliest.”
This report is somewhat consistent with speculation from Bloomberg, whose report also suggested that fans should not expect a new console to come for at least another year.
In addition, Nikkei’s main Japanese branch also published an article about Nintendo’s financial results briefing, which includes a statement from Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa directly addressing a question about a Switch successor.
Somewhat predictably, it seems Furukawa replied that he had “nothing to say” at this time, and declined to comment on any release dates. Nevertheless, Nikkei reported that market analysts predict that the new console would arrive after fiscal year March 2025, placing it even further out than the anonymous source.
As with all reports of this nature, we caution readers to take them with a grain of salt. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
