Rumor: Nintendo Reportedly Considering Switch 2 Price Increase Amidst Memory Chip Crisis
For the past few months, the gaming industry has been facing an impending chip shortage due to the rise in demand caused by the AI boom.
In the midst of this situation, Nintendo has been fairly open about discussing the challenges it poses for the Switch 2 and its profitability. However, they have been tiptoeing around mentioning a potential price increase for the console, instead implying that they will focus on ramping up production to keep costs low and maintain profitability, although they did also say they would “carefully consider” the matter.
The latter statement has seemingly been confirmed by a report from Bloomberg, which claims Nintendo is “contemplating raising the price” of the Switch 2 according to “people familiar with its plans.”. This same report also claims that Sony is considering delaying the release of the Playstation 6 to either 2027 or 2028, demonstrating how seriously the industry is taking the threat of rising memory costs.
As with all reports of this nature, we caution readers to take this with a grain of salt. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
