Last weekend, graphics card manufacturer NVIDIA was hit with a major cyberattack, resulting in a number of leaks from the company springing up online, one of which pertains to the Nintendo Switch.

As explained by dataminer NWPlayer123, the leaks contain references to “nvn2”, which the dataminer believes to be a graphics api for the ever rumored “Switch Pro”. This is because the graphics api for the regular Switch is labelled “nvn”, which would logically mean that “nvn2” is a new version meant for an updated system. According to NWPlayer123, “nvn2” is based on Ampere, and includes ray tracing support and DLSS 2.2.

Based on comments from Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa that the Switch is still “in the middle” of its life, the prevailing speculation is that “nvn2” refers specifically to some kind of updated model of the base Switch, be it the Pro Model or something similar. More involved theories suggest that “nvn2” might have originally been planned for the OLED, but was pushed back due to chip shortages during that model’s production.

Of course, at the time of this writing, Nintendo has yet to make any sort of move to announce new Switch hardware. We will be sure to report back with any updates should they become available.
