Rumor: Switch Successor Reveal Might Happen This Month
A few months back, Nintendo officially announced that a successor to the Nintendo Switch was in the works, with more details set to be announced sometime this fiscal year.
Now, rumors have been circulating that the reveal might be coming very soon. Firstly, industry insiders have started claiming that news about the Switch successor might be coming this month. This includes social media posts from GamesIndustry writer Christopher Dring and VGC’s Andy Robinson, although neither provided that much detail beyond the speculation.
Next, hardware manufacturers that work with Nintendo have reportedly seen increases in spending and sales for “amusement” related purposes. David Gibson, Senior Analyst at MST Financial, claimed that Japanese hardware manufacturer and frequent Nintendo collaborator Hosiden spent “¥2bn on production equipment and ¥1bn on automation in FY3/25” for a major customer, going on to speculate that this is likely for Nintendo and its Switch successor.
In addition, electronic components company Weltrend, saw an increase in sales for its own “amusement” sector, which CEO Lin Chongtao specified was for “new models” of XBox, Playstation, and Switch consoles. He did not elaborate whether this was for existing or upcoming Switch models.
Finally, Nintendo themselves reportedly spent a record $911 million on R&D from April 2023 to March 2024. Presumably, a good portion of this likely went into the Switch’s successor, although we have no way of knowing the full breakdown.
