It appears that some Japanese scalpers have started selling the Nintendo Switch 2 at a loss.

A few listings on Japanese marketplace Mercari show that the Japanese-Language System (Japan Only) was sold for under 60,000 yen (USD413), with one particular listing that went for 57,000 yen (USD393). After accounting for platform fees, shipping, and the suggested retail price of the console, the scalper lost 10 yen (USD0.069) from selling the product.

The reason why some scalpers have started offloading the product at a loss is because Nintendo has announced that for any warranty claims and repairs to go through in Japan, the customer must retain the original receipt from the retailer that they purchased from.

As these receipts contain personal and sensitive information of the scalper, they can’t pass it to the customer that purchases from them. As a result, people have become more wary of buying from scalpers.
