Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic II “Restored Content” DLC Was Cancelled On Switch Due To Disney

Two years ago, publisher Aspyr announced they would be cancelling the “Restored Content” DLC for Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic II: The Sith Lords on Switch, sparking outrage from fans that eventually led to a class-action lawsuit being filed against the company for false advertising.

Now, thanks to GameFile (via VGC), we finally know the cause behind the DLC’s cancellation for Switch. According to court documents, the DLC was blocked for release on Switch by none other than Disney’s legal team. Disney has been the owner of the Star Wars IP after purchasing creator Lucasfilm back in 2012. Through examining the documents, GameFile put together a timeline showing that Disney legal blocked the release of the DLC on both the mobile version and Switch version of Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic II.

The documents detail that the main issue was obtaining the necessary rights for the DLC and crediting everyone who worked on it. However, this was a daunting task given that the “Restored Content” DLC was based on mods created by fans for the original version of Knights Of The Old Republic II. Disney also demanded that the modders be credited by their real names instead of aliases, and expressed concern over the use of non-union voice actors for parts of the content.

Unfortunately, Zbyl, the representative of the modding team, was unable to contact every person involved in the material. Lucasfilm told Aspyr that unless everyone was properly credited or had their content replaced, they would not approve of releasing the DLC. Presumably Aspyr was unable or unwilling to achieve this, and the DLC was cancelled.
