Super Nintendo World’s Power-Up Bands Can Be Used As amiibo For Their Corresponding Characters

Earlier this month, Nintendo gave another preview of the Super Nintendo World theme park opening in Osaka, Japan next February. One of its most exciting features is the ability to interact with various park elements by using special “Power-Up bands” – and it looks like they will have some extra functionality outside of the park as well!

Nintendo has shared new details about the power-up band, confirming that it can also act as an amiibo figure of its corresponding character! In practice, this means you’ll be able to scan the Power-Up band on your Nintendo Switch for compatible games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate!

Here are some roughly translated details from Nintendo’s website below:

Connect with Nintendo Switch games

Each Power-Up Band can be used as amiibo for its corresponding character.

  • For example, the Mario “power-up band” can be used as a “Mario” amiibo.
  • Software that supports amiibo is required.

How to use with Nintendo Switch

  • Touch the power-up band on the R stick on the Joy-Con ™ or Nintendo Switch Lite main unit; or
  • Touch the power-up band on the central part of the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.

Given the full selection of Power-Up bands that will be available at the theme park’s launch (seen below), this means that visitors are essentially obtaining amiibo for Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Toad, or Yoshi! Talk about killing two birds with one stone!
