The Pokemon Company Issues Official Statement On Palworld
After numerous comparisons to the Pokemon franchise, The Pokemon Company has finally released an official statement regarding the recently released monster-catching game Palworld.
On their official corporate website, The Pokemon Company issued the following statement in both English and Japanese:
Inquiries Regarding Other Companies’ Games
We have received many inquiries regarding another company’s game released in January 2024. We have not granted any permission for the use of Pokémon intellectual property or assets in that game. We intend to investigate and take appropriate measures to address any acts that infringe on intellectual property rights related to the Pokémon. We will continue to cherish and nurture each and every Pokémon and its world, and work to bring the world together through Pokémon in the future.
The Pokémon Company
While Palworld was not explicitly named in the statement, the mention of “another company’s game released in January 2024” is clear enough of a reference as it gets.
This statement comes in the wake of many comparisons between the two games by fans online, with some even claiming that Palworld directly extracted and modified assets from existing Pokemon games, as well as Nintendo issuing a takedown notice on a fanmade Pokemon mod for Palworld.
At the time of this writing, there has been no corresponding response to this statement from the developers of Palworld, Pocketpair. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
