Ubisoft Responds To Rumors That A Rayman Remake Is In The Works
Rumors have surfaced that a new Rayman remake is in the works at Ubisoft.
The rumor was first reported by Insider Gaming, who claimed that a remake of the original Rayman was in the works at Ubisoft under the codename “Project Steambot”. It is apparently one of the projects that the disbanded team behind Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown has been diverted to work on. Michel Ancel, the original creator of Rayman and Beyond Good & Evil, has been brought on as a consultant, despite the team expressing concerns about his “toxic leadership“.
Following this initial report, Ubisoft issued a statement to Eurogamer confirming that they are in the “exploration phase” of new Rayman projects, and that Ancel was indeed being consulted to ensure “consistency within the universe”. The publisher of course did not specify whether it was a Rayman remake or some other project.
“We are pleased to confirm Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan have recently started an exploration phase on the Rayman brand. The project is still in its early stages, and we will share more details later. As creator of the Rayman brand, Michel Ancel is being consulted to ensure consistency within the universe.”
As with all rumors of this nature, we caution readers to take them with a grain of salt. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
