2.2 Million People Signed Up For My Nintendo Store’s Switch 2 Pre-Order Lottery In Japan

Shuntaro Furukawa, president of Nintendo, has posted a message on the official Nintendo Twitter account in Japan.

The president revealed that around 2.2 million registrations were received in the Nintendo Switch 2 lottery on My Nintendo Store in Japan alone. This number is “far higher” than what the company expected, thus a considerable number of people won’t be able to secure a launch day Switch 2 from this lottery.

Results from the first lottery will be announced as scheduled on April 24, 2025 11am Japan time. Those who failed to secure a set in the first lottery will automatically be enrolled in the second lottery starting April 28, but Furukawa can’t promise that everyone will get a Switch 2 in the second lottery as well.

Furukawa has also pledged to further increase production of the Switch 2 accordingly in light of the high demand.

Here is his full statement translated by NintendoSoup:

This is Furukawa. In order to deliver Nintendo Switch 2 to the hands of our customers, we have prepared a large supply of components and proceeded with production. Following the announcement of Nintendo Switch 2 information on April 2, My Nintendo Store started a lottery pre-order. It has seen about 2,200,000 registrations in Japan alone, which is a very high number of people. However, this number drastically exceeded our expectations, as well as the amount of Nintendo Switch 2 systems that we can deliver on June 5. Hence, unfortunately, it is expected that a considerable number of customers will not secure a system in this pre-order lottery.

For the convenience of everyone, customers who did not secure a set in the first pre-order lottery on My Nintendo Store will automatically be enrolled in the second pre-order lottery. However, considering the amount of units prepared for the second lottery, not all customers will be able to secure a system as well. Even though we have make preparations in advance, I deeply apologize for not meeting everyone’s expectations.

Currently, we are strengthening our production system in light of the high demand. In addition, concerning the shipment of products, starting April 24, retailers and online stores across Japan will begin pre-orders and pre-order lotteries for Nintendo Switch 2 (please check with the retialer for more information). We will continuously offer our products even on My Nintendo Store (we will provide more details in the future).

With the cooperation of our retail partners, we will continue with our best efforts to deliver a large quantity of Nintendo Switch 2 systems to our customers’ hands. Furthermore, we are planning to produce and ship a considerable number of Nintendo Switch 2 systems from now on. It will take some time to meet everyone’s expectations, so we will greatly appreciate your understanding.
