Dataminer: Pokemon Sword And Shield Built From The Same Codebase As Let’s GO
Today we have more interesting news about the development of Pokemon Sword and Shield from dataminer Kaphotics.
As some Pokemon fans have been curious which game engine Pokemon Sword and Shield uses, Kaphotics went in to look for clues in Pokemon Sword and Shield’s code.
Kaphotics found that Pokemon Sword and Shield uses a fork of the Pokemon Let’s GO Pikachu/Eevee codebase, rather than Pokemon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon for Nintendo 3DS. This was identified through the similarities of folder structures for both games.
A fork means Game Freak had copied over the code they used for Pokemon Let’s GO and modified it for Pokemon Sword and Shield. As to how heavy the modifications were, we will have to wait and see.
