Over the past few years, Nintendo has been steadily expanding its reach worldwide, with one of its major breakthroughs being officially entering China back in 2019.

According to games analyst Rishi Alwani, Nintendo is now “eyeing India again” as a potential market. Alwani claims that Nintendo’s staff visited key markets in India such as Mumbai, although no deals have been struck yet.

Alwani’s sources claim that the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) regulations were a point of concern for Nintendo “which they fear could reveal their factories”. Other outlets have reported that these regulations have been a key sticking point for Nintendo in the past, in addition to high import taxes.

Nevertheless, Alwani remains convinced that Nintendo will eventually find a way to break into India, as did Sony’s Playstation and Microsoft’s XBox did before them. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
