Pokemon Center Singapore Will Remove TCG Product Plastic Wrap To Combat Scalpers

Following the disastrous launch of the Prismatic Evolutions expansion, Pokemon Center Singapore has implemented a new measure to combat scalpers.

As of March 13th 2025, Pokemon Center Singapore will remove the outer plastic wrap covering all Pokemon TCG Products. This specifically seems to refer to the clear plastic shrink wrap used as a protective covering on larger sets and booster boxes. This measure discourages scalpers by making the products more difficult to resell, as collectors can no longer be sure if the product has been tampered with if the shrink wrap has been removed.

Pokemon Center Japan has similar measures in place when selling Pokemon TCG Products, but this appears to be the first time this is being implemented for English TCG Products.

Many fans have praised this move as a good step towards deterring scalpers. Ordinary consumers are typically only interested in the cards themselves, so removing the plastic wrap surrounding the product makes no difference to them. However, some legitimate collectors are more critical, as this prevents them from being able to collect sealed goods from another official Pokemon Center store.

For the time being however, Pokemon Center Singapore will be continuing this practice until further notice. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
