Masahiro Sakurai Says He Is Not Planning To Retire Currently

Masahiro Sakurai, creator of Kirby and Super Smash Bros., has shared his current thoughts on retirement from the game’s industry.

Sakurai spoke about the topic during the Famitsu 40th Anniversary Festival, following up on when he answered the question “What do you think about retirement?” five years ago in his final weekly column for the magazine. According to Famitsu’s report, Sakurai’s thoughts haven’t changed much from back then, and he would only consider it “when either “Is there a demand?” or “Can I meet that demand?” falls apart”.

Sakurai elaborated by saying that he is still able to “work very hard”, despite a “decline” in various parts of his body due to aging, mentioning that his eyes in particular are starting to get tired easily. He also mentions that “Work is coming in now”, implying that he is already hard at work on a new project, although he does not mention what that could be.
