Sonic Movie Director Explains Choices Made About Character Design
The Sonic movie has made its debut today with its first teaser poster and has been met with a lot of criticism from fans worldwide.
However, Tails Channel has managed to find some statements off the director regarding Sonic’s redesign in the movie.
#SonicMovie executive producer Tim Miller on Sonic's eyes: "I don’t think SEGA was entirely happy with the eye decision, but these sorts of things you go, ‘It’s going to look weird if we don’t do this.’" #SonicNews pic.twitter.com/vWYUXfdtO0

He explains that he attempted to make Sonic look less look weird by changing factors such as how his eyes look so it meets the worlds aesthetic.
#SonicMovie executive producer Tim Miller on Sonic's new design: "That was always Stage 1 of adapting it to what the real world is and what a real animal would be like," #SonicNews pic.twitter.com/Ea3XEB62Hz

#SonicMovie producer Neal Moritz to IGN on Sonic's shoes: "We looked at every different variation of what shoes he's worn and we're trying to pay homage to that and also make it current and present day in what we think a Sonic of today would wear," #SonicNews pic.twitter.com/QkgM29rapp

He further talks about how they tried to make sonic feel more realistic by adding features such as fur so he wouldn’t look odd in a real life setting. The decision to change the shoes were also made to make them feel more modernized and to also pay homage to his original pair of trainers..
Hopefully the movie will turn out well when when in launches in Late 2019. If we have any more information to share on Sonic we will cover it here at Nintendo Soup so stay tuned for more information.
