Nintendo has revealed some updated figures for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, revealing that the game has broken a new record in Japan.
As of February 3rd 2022, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has become the best-selling videogame of all time in Japan with over 10 million copies sold, overthrowing the previous record holder: the original Super Mario Bros. for the Famicom, which had lifetime sales of 6.81 million. The only other titles to come close to this record are the combined sales of the original Pokemon Red/Green/Blue versions, which reportedly sold 10.23 million all together in Japan.
On the global side, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has crossed 37.62 million worldwide, still trailing behind Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which remains the best-selling Switch game of all time at 43.35 million. With support for New Horizons slowing down, it will be interesting to see if the game will ever catch up to Mario Kart 8 moving forward.
