Balan Wonderworld’s Ousted Creator Yuji Naka Erases Former Co-Worker Naoto Ohshima From Team Photo
Earlier this year, Sonic the Hedgehog co-creator Yuji Naka revealed that he had been ousted as the developer of Balan Wonderworld by Square Enix midway through the game’s development. While most of his ire has been aimed at the company so far, it appears that there is now some bad blood between Yuji Naka and another notable developer as well.
In a recent tweet from his personal account, Yuji Naka celebrated the 26th anniversary of the NiGHTS series by posting a photo of his team who worked on the game. However, many Twitter users soon noted a peculiar edit made to the photo by Yuji Naka: erasing away the image of his former colleague Naoto Ohshima (who also worked with him on Balan Wonderworld):
Happy Birthday NiGHTS!
26 years ago, NiGHTS was announced at this Sega Saturn new software presentation. Bomberman and Enemy Zero were announced together.

Eventually, Yuji Naka spilled the beans on the edited photo – sharing that his removal as Balan Wonderworld‘s director and his fallout with Square Enix was partly due to Naoto Ohshima’s involvement somehow:
How would you feel if you were suddenly removed from a game that you had worked hard on for over two years, and when you went to court, you found out that they had been talking about me behind my back in court documents and that is why I was removed from the game?

What would you do if you were to be ill for a long time and unable to do anything because of it? And how would you feel if you were the director of an unfinished game and it was heavily criticized?

From the looks of things, it looks like Yuji Naka still has quite a lot of bones to pick over his removal from Balan Wonderworld‘s development. We’ll report back if the situation develops further.
