Bloomberg Report Predicts Switch Shortages To Hit US And Europe

Earlier this month, Nintendo confirmed that the 2019 coronavirus outbreak in China would cause production delays for the Nintendo Switch, which has since resulted in shortages within the company’s home country of Japan.

Although Nintendo previously reassured everyone that the production shortage would not affect stock in the West, a recent report from Bloomberg suggests otherwise.

According to Bloomberg’s sources, the limited supply of Chinese components is starting to affect assembly lines in Vietnam, where most US and European Switch consoles are assembled. Once existing supply runs out, this slowdown in production of new units could lead to Switch shortages further down the line.

When asked for comment by Bloomberg, a Nintendo spokesperson said the company is still confident that US stock won’t be affected too badly. That said, they did acknowledge that this could change if the virus continues to spread in the coming months.

“We do not see any major impact on the shipment to the U.S. currently, but we will remain vigilant and take steps if necessary. It’s possible the supply would be affected by the virus if it becomes more widespread and prolonged.”
