Borderlands 4 Switch 2 Version Development Paused

Borderlands 4 Switch 2 Version Development Paused

Last year, developer Gearbox announced that Borderlands 4‘s Switch 2 release had been delayed indefinitely, saying that it needed more time to deliver “the best possible experience”.

Now however, it seems that the game might not even make it to the console. In a statement issued to Variety, publisher Take-Two spokesperson Alan Lewis said that the company had made the ” difficult decision to pause development” on the Switch 2 version, and are instead focusing on post-launch support for the existing versions of the game.

“We made the difficult decision to pause development on that SKU. Our focus continues to be delivering quality post-launch content for players on the ongoing improvements to optimize the game. We’re continuing to collaborate closely with our friends at Nintendo. We have ‘PGA Tour 2K25’ coming out and ‘WWE 2K26’ [for Switch 2], and we’re incredibly excited about bringing more of our titles to that platform in the future.”

Back when the game first launched for other platforms, it was heavily criticized for poor performance on consoles. Taking the publisher’s statement at face value, it is likely that they will only resume work on the Switch 2 version once all the issues with the others are addressed, if they decide to go back to it at all.
