As the world is busy debating about the debut of Fire Emblem: Three Houses protagonist Byleth in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, a different kind of discussion is brewing in Japan.
When the Rex Mii costume was first revealed for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Masahiro Sakurai commented that due to the development time of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, they were not able to turn Rex into a fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. So as a form of “consolation prize”, they created a Mii costume instead.
The comment he made about Rex has now resurfaced, with many Japanese fans asking themselves if Fire Emblem: Three Houses was released 6 months before Byleth’s debut in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, there is absolutely no reason for character(s) from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, a game released in December 2017, to be added as fighter(s) in the future.
Some Xenoblade Chronicles 2 fans are now hoping that someone from the game, such as Rex, Pyra, or Mythra, will debut in the second Fighter Pass. A few pointed out that Byleth’s debut contradicts what Sakurai said about development time affecting the release of potential new fighters in Smash.
