One of the many franchises that has yet to make its mark on the Switch is the .hack series – which features characters exploring a living, breathing virtual world. Since the 2017 release of .hack//G.U. Last Recode on PS4, it’s no surprise that fans have also been clamoring for a Switch port to take the game on the go. According to the game’s developer Cyberconnect2, however, it might take a little more than mere wishes and prayers to make this a reality.
During a recent video Q&A, CyberConnect2 president Hiroshi Matsuyama revealed that the company had indeed proposed the idea of a Switch port before. Unfortunately, the game’s publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment ultimately rejected such plans – as they were unsure of whether bringing the game to Switch would pay off.
In the end, Matsuyama encourages fans to contact Bandai Namco Entertainment directly if they want to request the game on Switch. You can watch this for yourself below (turn on closed captions for English subtitles):
“Frankly speaking, [CyberConnect 2 would] love to do that! We proposed the idea to Bandai Namco Entertainment several times. But their response was that it’s hard to predict the cost of porting and the sale prospects. For this reason, we were told that they were not able to make it happen and, as a result, we haven’t been able to.”
“So I highly encourage you, the users of Nintendo Switch, to contact Bandai Namco directly and let them know that you want to play .hack//G.U. Last Recode on Switch.”
