Detective Pikachu Star Ryan Reynolds Discusses The Future Of Live-Action Pokemon Films

Detective Pikachu might not be out in the West yet, but there are already plenty speculation and wonder about where the franchise could go next.

Speaking to Comicbook, com, Detective Pikachu star Ryan Reynolds shared his thoughts on the future of live-action Pokemon movies. Reynolds believes that Detective Pikachu barely scratches the surface of what the Pokemon universe has to offer, and that it has boundless potential for unique and interesting stories to be told.

“It could go anywhere. Justice [Smith] … has probably forgotten more about Pokemon than I’ll ever know. So, if we’re lucky enough to be making a bunch of these, I think you’ve got to take some deep dives. You’ve also got to zig when everyone thinks you’re going to zag. That starts with story and making it current and fun. I’m surprised this hasn’t been developed earlier because it is such a universe. You can see it going in all kinds of different directions.”

The Detective Pikachu movie is showing in theaters now in Japan, and will premier in the West 10 May 2019.
