Fan Artist Creates Beautiful “Borderless” Pokemon Trading Cards

We all know that Pokemon Trading Cards have some great artwork, but have you ever wondered what they might look like without the borders?

To answer this question, 25-year-old Micah Yates, who goes by the handle Lunumbra on Instagram, has been creating “borderless” Pokemon cards since 2014. Each of her works are created by physically painting over the descriptions, moves and gameplay information of each card, extending the artwork to cover the card in its entirety.

You can check out a video of Yates at work below, posted on her Instagram account:

Speaking with BBC, Yates explained that it all started with her simply wondering what lay beyond the border of each card’s artwork. After experimenting with a few of these “borderless” Pokemon cards and posting them on Reddit, they exploded in popularity and she has been taking commissions for them ever since.

I always wondered what was behind the square on the Pokemon card. This is an opportunity to take the border off the artwork and see what’s behind it.

I painted 10 cards to play around with and posted them on Reddit .

It went viral overnight. People were asking me to paint cards for them and paying me, and it hasn’t stopped.
