First Sneak Peek At Activities, Food, And More At Super Nintendo World Japan’s Donkey Kong Country Expansion

During its latest Direct today, Nintendo officially revealed fresh details about the new Donkey Kong Country section opening at its Super Nintendo World park in Japan.

In particular, the park will feature a whole new location themed after the popular Donkey Kong Country series of games. Legendary Nintendo creator Shigeru Miyamoto shared a tour of the park – first showing off some of the activities that visitors will be able to participate in.

These include a rhythm-based game where three visitors can hit the drums to the beat in order to call Rambi out of a bunch of crates. Additionally, visitors will be able to scan various secrets around the park (such as the iconic K-O-N-G letters from the games) with their Power-Up bands.

After this, Shigeru Miyamoto also introduced the snacks that visitors can enjoy at a store in the park. Two of these will be the DK Crush Sundae and DK Wild Dog – which are an ice cream sundae (in a DK-themed cup) and hot dog respectively.

Following this, Shigeru Miyamoto also introduced a new Donkey Kong mascot that visitors can take photos with, along with a preview of a new merchandise store that will be themed after Funky Kong.

Finally, a short preview of the park’s featured Donkey Kong minecart ride was previewed. Visitors will first enter the ride through the Golden Temple building, where they will find various murals and even talking Cranky Kong and Squawks animatronics – who instruct visitors to retrieve the Golden Banana.

While we don’t get a full look at the ride, Shigeru Miyamoto shared a peek at the first few seconds of it – where passengers will pass by Dixie Kong before being shot out of a Barrel Cannon.

Super Nintendo World’s Donkey Kong Country expansion will be opening at Universal Studios Japan on 11 December 2024. We’ll report back if we hear more in the future!
