As part of a month long series, Game Informer spoke to Game Freak developers Junichi Masuda and Shigeru Ohmori on various topics about Pokemon.
One of the questions raised was who exactly owns the Pokemon franchise, which Masuda answered three different companies – Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures. He then went on to describe Game Freak’s relationship with Nintendo as friends.
Everyone really knows Nintendo; there is a familiarity with the brand, and they have that really strong brand and Pokemon being associated with that and being affiliated with that bring is very important.
Game Informer also asked whether Masuda thinks if the main Pokemon games would ever see the day on non-Nintendo platforms such as the PS4 and Xbox One. As expected, here’s his answer.
With Pokemon, at least, we really feel it is really important to be with Nintendo, specifically with the Pokemon titles, so I don’t think that would ever happen.
