Game Freak, the developer of the Pokemon games, has confirmed that one of its employees has tested positive for the coronavirus.
The news was shared via Game Freak’s official website, where it was explained that the employee who tested positive has been admitted to a medical facility and is receiving treatment. According to the company, the employee had not been in Game Freak’s office since April 2nd, due to Game Freak enacting a work-from-home policy.
Since the employee was not present in the office, the relevant authorities have stated that Game Freak’s other employees are not classified as “rich contacts” and their offices can continue to remain open. That said, Game Freak has stated that they will continue to prioritize the health and safety of its employees, business partners, employees, and their families during this difficult time.
At the time of this writing, it is not known if this situation will affect the release date of Game Freak’s upcoming projects such as the Pokemon Sword/Shield DLC. We will bring more details as they come.
