Gamefreak Staff Has Made “No Decision” About Adding Missing Pokemon To Pokemon Sword & Shield With Updates

Amidst the fallout from Gamefreak’s controversial decision to limit the amount of Pokemon in Pokemon Sword & Shield, some fans still held out hope that they could possibly return in a future update to the game.

Unfortunately, it seems that Gamefreak currently has no plans to implement such an update, at least not for now. Speaking to Famitsu, Gamefreak’s Junichi Masuda & Shigeru Ohmori said that the team has made “no decision” regarding whether or not to add Pokemon not in the Galar region Pokedex into Pokemon Sword & Shield through future updates. They also reiterated that Mega Evolutions & Z-Moves would not be coming back.

That said, Masuda & Ohmori did say that the missing Pokemon would have an “active role” when transferred to Pokemon Homealthough they did not elaborate on what this meant. It is possible that Pokemon Home will allow players to do more with their Pokemon than simply store and trade them (i.e. Battling, Amie) but this will likely be of cold comfort to those who wanted to bring their favorites along for their journey in Pokemon Sword And Shield.

Notably, Gamefreak’s statements do not exclude the idea of the missing Pokemon returning in a future enhanced version of Pokemon Sword And Shield (a la Ultra Sun/Moon). Furthermore, their current stance on updates could change if fan backlash continues moving forward. We will bring more updates on their response to this situation as they come.
