Recently, the screenwriters of the newly released film Pokemon Detective Pikachu ,Dan Hernández and Benji Sami, were interviewed by Blank Check podcast.
In the interview, it was revealed that the Pokemon Garbodor was originally planned for the movie and was even included in the script but later cut out for looking too weird.

In the interview, they also share why the film didn’t focus on the Red/Blue storyline as they said the film following Detective Pikachu would be like if the live action Super Mario Bros movie followed Dr Mario.
They also did not confirm if a sequel would happen ,which has been rumored in the past, but they did talk about them wanting to explain what it feels like inside of a Pokeball in future live action films.
