Guide: How To Catch All Legendary Pokemon In Pokemon Scarlet/Violet

As with previous games in the series, Pokemon Scarlet And Violet feature a number of Legendary Pokemon, which are powerful one-of-a kind Pokemon with power that far exceeds that of their peers.

Below you will find a guide explaining how to capture all the Legendary Pokemon currently available in the games. As this could be considered spoilers, read on past the warning only if you are comfortable being spoiled!

Koraidon & Miraidon

The cover legendaries of the new games, Koraidon and Miraidon are initially encountered at the start of the game, serving as the player character’s mounts. However, this Koraidon/Miraidon cannot be used in battle until the final story arc of the game is completed. Once this is done, players will be able to use them in Battle Mode.

After completing all three main story paths along with the final story arc, players will also be able to battle and capture a second Koraidon (in Scarlet) or Miraidon (in Violet) by returning to Area Zero in the Great Crater Of Paldea. which is presumably meant to be traded with another player for the opposite Legendary.

All Koraidon/Miraidon encountered in the games are Shiny Locked.

The Treasures of Ruin

The Treasures of Ruin are a new sub-set of four Legendary Pokemon that can be found in Scarlet/Violet. They are unlocked by pulling out stakes that have been scattered across the map, after which they can be caught and battled by opening their respective Shrines.

  • Chi-Yu ~ The Ruinous Beads, a Dark/Fire type Goldfish
  • Ting-Lu ~ The Ruinous Vessel, A Dark/Ground type Deer
  • Wo-Chien ~ The Ruinous Tablets, A Dark/Grass type Snail
  • Chien-Pao ~ The Ruinous Sword, A Dark/Ice type Leopard

Pulling out the stakes for this quest (and by extension, capturing the Legendary Pokemon) can be started at any point in the game, due to its open world nature. However, in order to get a proper explanation for the quest, players will have to attend History Classes at School with the History Teacher Raifort. Furthermore, each of the Legendary Pokemon is encountered at Level 60, making them a challenge to capture for players early into their adventure.

After attending enough classes and befriending Raifort, she will explain the backstory of the Treasures Of Ruin as well as what the stakes signify. She will then mark the four Shrines on the player’s map. Each Shrine has 8 stakes that must be pulled before their respective Legendary can be battled.

All four of the of the Treasures Of Ruin are Shiny Locked.

Maps of the Stake Locations for each of the four Treasures can be found below, created by Exitfy on Reddit:
