On this day 20 years ago, Super Smash Bros. was released on Nintendo 64 in Japan.
Today, the Super Smash Bros. franchise has turned 20 years old. It started off as a simple cross-over party game featuring Nintendo’s 12 most popular heroes. Over the years, with releases such as Melee on GameCube and Brawl on Wii, the Smash Bros. community started growing at a rapid pace, and a lively competitive scene taking root in countries all over the world.
After 20 years, Super Smash Bros. has evolved into a successful franchise, cumuliating with the launch of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Nintendo Switch. The rapid growth of the Smash Bros. franchise throughout the two decades is thanks to the hardworking development teams and Super Smash Bros. founder Masahiro Sakurai, who has worked tirelessly to create the perfect games all these years.
