Today marks the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Kart in North America, the very first Mario Kart game ever released in history.
Super Mario Kart was originally released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Players could throw bananas and Koopa Shells at their opponents on the race track, and up to 4 players could play on the TV at the same time. It was considered something revolutionary two decades ago.
For those of you who aren’t old enough to get the chance to play Super Mario Kart, you can either check it out on the upcoming SNES Classic Edition or download a Virtual Console copy on Wii U or New Nintendo 3DS.
Or perhaps we should all just get back to playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to commemorate this day.
