Lightning, a powerful item in the Mario Kart series, has received a couple of tweaks in Mario Kart World that players ought to know.

First, the biggest change to the Lightning item is who gets struck by it. In previous games, lightning struck all players in the race except for the one who used it. This has changed in Mario Kart World, whereby only racers in front of the player that uses it will get hit by lightning, those behind will not get affected by it.

Next, the amount of time a player stays small after getting hit by lightning has also been reduced as compared to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. This is of course a good thing for those that get hit by lightning.

Finally, it seems that using the lightning item will trigger weather changes in the race track. For example, after lightning was used in DK Spaceport, it started raining.
