Hit 2D Game Shovel Knight Was Actually Made In A 3D Engine

Shovel Knight is considered one of the pioneers in the modern 2D retro platformer genre, but did you know that its actually made in 3D?

In a new video from Boundary Break, host Shesez is joined by Shovel Knight developer David D’Angelo for an in depth look at how Yacht Club used a 3D engine to create a phenomenal 2D game. The video discusses how Shovel Knight uses perspective to make sprites and background arranged in 3D space look entirely 2D, along with reasoning and benefits behind using this approach.
