It’s Been 4 Years Since Tatsumi Kimishima Was Named President Of Nintendo
On September 16, 2015, a man that not many Nintendo fans were familiar with became the President of Nintendo.
That man was none other than Tatsumi Kimishima. Kimishima succeeded late Nintendo President Satoru Iwata after Iwata passed away in July 2015. The succession took place during a turbulent time for Nintendo as the company was raking up losses from the Wii U.
Though many questioned Kimishima’s ability to lead the company, Kimishima brought Nintendo to a new era that his predecessor was never able to see. The President oversaw the development and release of Nintendo Switch, as well as the success of Pokemon GO and many other titles under his watch. He continued Iwata’s plans of focusing on creating quality games. Unlike Iwata, Kimishima wasn’t very fond of the spotlight and so he didn’t appear in any Nintendo Directs.
We all ought to thank Kimishima as Nintendo came out stronger after he retired in June 2018, and the company is still doing well under the watch of Kimishima’s successor Shuntaro Furukawa.
