The Japanese government has announced 6 Order of Cultural Merit recipients and 21 people who have made outstanding cultural contributions to Japan.
Out of the 21 people, one person selected by the Japanese government is Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda.
Upon being named by the Japanese government as a person who made outstanding cultural contributions, Miyamoto made the following comments (translated by NintendoSoup):
The day where video games form the culture of Japan has finally come. A job which one could not accomplish alone.
I’m proud to be still working with my fellow members who started this together. I will continue to pour in my best effort.”
