Japanese Police Surround Nintendo Switch Scalper Who Claimed She Was Selling “At A Loss”
An unusual event has happened at Tokyo’s Akihabara district in Japan today.
A scalper arrived at Akihabara’s district with a wagon full of Nintendo Switch consoles, claiming that she’s selling them at 45,000 yen, which is a “loss” to her. Please keep in mind that the suggested retail price is 29,980 yen + 10% consumption tax in Japan. It is very likely that this scalper purchased from other scalpers at a higher price, thus why she is making a loss.

The scalper claimed to have sold 20 Nintendo Switch units at a loss:
すみません、販売開始して既に20個程売れてしまい、在庫がなくなる可能性が高いです…

And also claimed she’s selling them at 45,000 yen a set to “destroy the scalpers”:

Later in the day, the scalper was surrounded by the police who questioned her activities, which could probably be the reason why she claimed to have sold off all her sets:

This is how the Japanese reacted to the story:
“??????????”
“Selling above the retail price is still considered as scalping.”
“She better present her resale goods license”
“Destroying scalpers – I understand.
Selling below cost price – I understand.
Procuring stock from scalpers – I don’t understand.”
“Yep… you can destroy scalpers by selling at the regular price… not at scalper prices.”
