Today we have a very unusual and disturbing piece of news to share with you Japan.
As Japan’s population is scrambling to look for Nintendo Switch systems to entertain themselves during the coronavirus quarantine, scalpers are cashing in on the demand in very unscrupulous ways.
One scalper goes around e-commerce platform Mercari looking for Nintendo Switch sellers and tries to get them to lower their price by claiming that his son is sick from the coronavirus:
Translated by NintendoSoup:
“Please excuse my sudden comment. I have been thinking of buying the (Nintendo Switch Lite), but is it possible to lower your price? My son is currently hospitalized because he contracted the coronavirus, so I’m doing whatever I can to buy one for him. Could you please sell yours to me for 25,000 yen?” (the original price is 35,000 yen)
Viewing the scalper’s profile shows that he had resold a Nintendo Switch Lite for 40,000 yen and is reselling another for the same price, which means he has managed to fool some people with his fake sob story:
Here’s how the Japanese reacted:
“Perhaps he has multiple sons which contracted the coronavirus?”
“How did he manage to resell the Switch Lite for 40,000 yen?”
“Why is he so stupid to resell the systems on the same account..?”
