Earlier this month, it was reported that the old cardboard Labo VR headset would be compatible with the upcoming Virtual Boy games catalogue.
Following said report, Nintendo has issued a statement clarifying that the Labo VR headset does not “officially support” the Virtual Boy games, and that players will need to purchase either the full fledged Virtual Boy peripheral or the cardboard substitute in order to play the Virtual Boy games as intended.
Recently, we incorrectly stated that the Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics game library will be compatible with the Nintendo Labo VR Goggles. However, the Nintendo Labo VR Goggles are not officially supported for the Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics library.
Instead, Nintendo is offering two accessories: Virtual Boy for Nintendo Switch 2/Nintendo Switch and Virtual Boy (Cardboard Model) for Nintendo Switch 2/Nintendo Switch accessory. Both can be used to play select Virtual Boy games with 3D visuals.
We apologize for any confusion.
Instead however, it has been confirmed by VGC that the Virtual Boy Accessories can be used to experience the VR features that Nintendo added to several of its games back when the Labo VR set was first launched. Given that the Labo VR does not support the Switch 2, this would allow Switch 2 owners to experience these VR features on the new console. That said, only The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild would truly benefit from this upgrade, as it not only has a Switch 2 Edition, but it is the only VR compatible game that can be enjoyed in its entirely in VR.
