It has officially been confirmed when Nintendo started development of Nintendo Switch 2.

According to court documents served to third party accessory maker Genki, Nintendo started development of the next-gen console in 2019. This aligns with what they have previously said in the Nintendo Switch 2 developer interview.

This means that the console has been in development for 6 years with development starting 2 years after the Switch was released.
