Live Action Pokemon Series Reportedly In Early Development At Netflix
Following along the success of Legendary Studios’ Detective Pikachu, a new report has surfaced suggesting that Netflix could be planning its own live-action adaptation of the Pokemon series.
The report comes via news outlet Variety, whose sources claim that a live-action Pokemon series is in “early development” at Netflix. The sources also claim the show will be written and executive produced by Joe Henderson, who is presently co-showrunner and executive producer on Netflix’s “Lucifer”. Aside from this, no further details about the show’s plot were available.
Netflix is of course no stranger to hosting Pokemon content on its platform, having previously hosted the English dub of Pokemon Journeys: The Series, with plans to stream episodes of Pokemon Master Journeys in Summer 2021. This will however, be the first time they are producing a wholly original Pokemon project, if the report is to be believed.
That said, without any official confirmation from Netflix or The Pokemon Company, we caution readers to take the report with a grain of salt. Furthermore, as the project is in “early development” its quite possible that it could be delayed or scrapped somewhere down the line. We will be sure to report back with more details as they come.
