Another piece of lost media related to the Pokemon franchise has surfaced online.

The media in question is a game called Pokemon Fishing Contest DS, a DS download play title that was available at special events and Pokemon Center stores in Japan from May to August 2005, over 20 years ago. DS download play titles were limited games that could only be downloaded via Wi-Fi at a physical location, disappearing after the console is powered down.

Now, a seller on ebay is claiming to have a cartridge with the game on it, asking for around USD$9,145. The pictures appear to show a legitimate Nintendo DS test cartridge used internally by Nintendo and developers, although fans debate over whether it contains a copy of the full game or simply code for collecting high scores from the game.

If it indeed holds a real copy of the game, fans are hopeful that the auction winner will be someone willing to dump the game and share it online for preservation and for everyone to enjoy. Otherwise, it may be another couple of decades before it appears again.
